A free, no-pressure review can look at your actual statements, the best timing for a sale and whether segregated funds fit your goals.
"If markets grow": investments grow 6% a year before fees. "If markets fall": markets drop by the amount you choose, either right after you invest (then stay flat) or in year 10 (after 6% growth before that). Real returns will vary, and past performance doesn't predict future results.
In the "If markets fall" estimate, amounts are shown before any tax at death. The death benefit is the higher of the fund's value and the guaranteed amount. Withdrawals reduce guarantees and aren't included.
Stocks: 2.5% dividend yield (80% Canadian), 15% of holdings sold each year, 1.25% yearly account fee.
iA segregated funds use the Diversified Opportunity (iA) Fund fees: 75/75 2.70%, 75/100 2.88% + 0.10%, 100/100 3.09% + 0.50% (iA fund facts). Fees vary by fund.
Tax uses 2026 combined federal and Nova Scotia rates, with half of the gain taxable (EY 2026 rate card; inclusion rate stays at 50%). Credits, OAS recovery and Alternative Minimum Tax aren't included. A large one-time gain can trigger AMT (MD Financial).
The sale tax is paid from the sale, and yearly tax is paid from other savings. Any selling or redemption fees aren't included.
Guarantees follow iA's 75/75, 75/100 and Ecoflex 100/100 options (iA guarantees). The 100% death guarantee applies to deposits before age 85 (75/100) or 80 (100/100). The 100/100 maturity guarantee needs more than 15 years to maturity. Guarantee fees are paid by redeeming units (iA information folder).
Not included: probate savings, creditor protection or the value of naming a beneficiary directly.
